My dog ate McDonald's eggs. Why is he vomiting with bloody diarrhea?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 8 months and 1 day old | 80 lbs

This morning when I wasn't looking, my dog ate my scrambled eggs from McDonalds. Later on, he was really gassy and farting a lot and when I had him in my car a few hours later he vomited clear liquid and chunks of the eggs. After he vomited he had diarrhea and just now he had blood in his diarrhea. He is an anxious dog in general and did get groomed today, which he doesnt really like. I thought I would include that. He is 100% up to date with his vaccinations and heart worm pills, etc.

Oh no, that's was naughty of Yeti to eat your food from McDonald's! It certainly sounds like the eggs has upset his stomach a lot, and that could cause the blood in his diarrhea. Eggs from McDonald's can be very fatty, and that can do a number on his GI system, and could potentially cause pancreatitis. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps him with his upset stomach. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, has diarrhea on the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, Yeti will need to see a vet right away. Hopefully the bland diet helps with his symptoms, and he feels better soon!

Feed Chop a bland diet of boiled chicken and cooked White rice for the day and see if you have improvements. If the vomiting persist, do not hesitate to take him to the vet for a physical exam. At the vet office they may want to perform an intestinal parasite exam, possibly testing him for parvovirus if is vaccines are not up to date and even possibly taking an x-ray to rule out a foreign body. I sure hope Chop only has a digestive indiscretion and hopefully the bland diet is what will help make him feel better. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach
