My dog's neck lump burst and the wound isn't healing. What is it?

My female German shepherd is almost 2 years old. She developed this knot under her skin on her neck that at first I thought was a tumor. I started trying to get her in to see my Vet but then the knot turned into what looked like a massive pimple and busted. I have been cleaning it but it does not look like its getting better. No swelling. She does not display any behavior that would indicate that she is in pain and the wound opened up about a week ago. Do you know what it is? Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 2 months old | 75 lbs

It sounds like Maya may have an abscess, which is a localized pocket of infection. This needs to be flushed sterilely, and she will need antibiotics to treat it if she does have an abscess. I would have her seen by a vet today to treat this wound.
