Poor Jingles! No, please don't put motor oil on her skin - this will not help the problem, and may make things worse. A rash with hair loss like this could be caused by a number of different things. The most common possibilities would include allergies (food allergies, or an allergy to something in the environment), fleas, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange). Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so it's important to get a diagnosis first. I would recommend taking Jingles to the vet tomorrow for an exam. He/she can do some simple skin testing to help determine what is causing the rash and get her started on appropriate medication to treat the problem.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. This could be an allergic reaction or skin infection (bacterial or fungal). You will need to have Fendi physically examined by your veterinarian for confirmation and treatment. Antibiotics or antifungals may be indicated. A short course of steroids followed by antihistamines may relieve allergy related itching. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent excessive licking or chewing until she has recovered.
