Is peppermint oil spray in my room safe for my cat and her bedding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 years and 1 month old | 12 lbs

I sprayed a peppermint oil mixture (6-7 drops of peppermint oil, dawn dish soap, and warm water) all around my room to deter spiders, is it safe for my cat to be in the room? It's been about an hour and the smell has largely diffused, but I sprayed it on to many soft surfaces including my bed. Thank you for your help

Cats are especially sensitive to peppermint oil, and if ingested, it can caused GI upset, central nervous system depression, and even liver damage if enough is ingested. I would not allow Kiki in your room at all at the moment, and to be safe, I would wash your bedding before allowing her back in. In the future, refrain from using peppermint oil.
