Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5.8 lbs

My 4 month old kitten has had a very decreased appetite in the last couple days. today he vomited once. He gets excited when I get the wet food but walks away once I put it in front of him. He's acting normal otherwise. His sister was off her food for a day as well but us now eating a lot. Any ideas or things to look out for?

It could be that Burger is teething, and that is causing him to not want to eat. Teething can be painful in kittens, and you can try tempting him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken, or gently warming up really smelly wet food such as sardine or fish based. You can also soak his dry food in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth. If he won't eat this food, I would have him seen by a vet immediately for a health check.

If she is losing teeth then her appetite might be decreased because she is having some discomfort when eating. If she is otherwise acting ok then you could monitor her for a few days and see if the problem resolves. If it persists, she starts vomiting, or is lethargic then she needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat.
