Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 lbs
My cat Ivy has started losing fur, about 2 weeks ago, over her back legs, lower stomach and now on her sides. It looks like she is grooming a lot more than usual, and there are a few sores where she has lost fur. I've used advantage flea treatment on her 2 days ago incase it was a flea allergy, but she is still grooming. What could this be?

Good job on using a flea treatment program on Ivy, but the environment has to be disinfected as well to prevent continue infestation with fleas. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Cats can suffer from an allergy from the flea bites, and that can cause the continued grooming. If after disinfecting the home Ivy is still grooming, I would have her seen by a vet. Should she be suffering from a flea allergy, the vet can give her medication for it. Other causes of over-grooming in cats include mites and ringworm. The vet can check her for those as well, and treat as needed.
