My cat ate a spider and foamed. Should I take him to the ER vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 2 years and 7 months old

my cat just tried to eat a spider, and i think it bit him inside his mouth because he started pawing at his mouth and foaming. he seems fine now, no breathing problems that i can tell. should i take him into ER vet right now or just keep an eye on him? i found and killed the spider, small i don't think poisonous.

Oh no, poor Sylar! If he's not pawing at his mouth or foaming anymore, I would keep an eye on him. It could be the pain from the spider caused that reaction. I would try to look up the spider on the internet to see if it is poisonous or not, and if it is, rush him into an ER vet now. While monitor him, if you see any swelling of the mouth, vomiting, foaming of the mouth, respiratory difficulties, or the bite in his mouth gets bigger, I would have him seen by a vet right away.
