My 14-year-old cat's ears get hot and red. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

So my cat is around 14 years old and has gotten hot and reddish ears twice now, is he okay? His appetite seems to be normal, his activity level seems the same (he has been running around a bit lately though), and his weight seems to be the same. The hot ears also don't stick around they disappear after a few minutes, his nose is also wet and cold.

The hot and red ears could be indicative of a fever in Toody, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. Given that this symptoms disappears and everything else seems to be normal, I would keep an eye on him for now. Should this happen again, I would have him seen by a vet for a health check. Don't worry about his nose, a cat's nose is not used an an indicator of illness. A cat's nose can go from wet and cold to warm and dry just by lying in the sun or near a heat source.
