Is a thick vein in my chihuahua's eye normal after a scratch?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My chihuahua dog has a thick vein in the right eye, is that normal? A month ago a cat scrarched that eye and took her to the vet and said she was okay. I don't know if that's because of that scratch or she's like that. Thank you.

Veins typically aren't thick in the eye, and that may not be normal. It could be related to her being scratched in the eye a month ago, and I would take your dog back into the vet to have her eye examined again.

The vein may be in response to the scratch, to heal the injury or irritation. If her eye looks clear and normal with no discharge, if she is seeing fine and the eye does not seem painful, keep an eye on it for any changes. If she does seem uncomfortable, if the eye seems larger or smaller, if there is any discharge, if she starts rubbing the eye, get her seen by your vet right away.
