Is sudden cat paralysis from playing a natural medical condition?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Bobtail | Male | neutered | 13 lbs

On Friday my cat had to be put down and we suspect my sister killed him is there any chance that a cat could all the sudden go from playing around (safely) to paralyzed. I ask because she found him and also had a strong hatred for the cat

First off, I'm so sorry that your cat died! There is something that could cause a cat to go from playing to paralyzed. It's called a saddle thrombus. This is when the heart throws a blood clot, and prevents blood flow to the hind limbs. The cat will become suddenly paralyzed and be in extreme pain. Without seeing Wolfy in person, I can't say for certain, but I can recommend you request a necropsy (an autopsy for cats) be done on his body. That way, you may have some answers. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.
