If Oakley simply chewed and did not ingest any of the root, he may be fine. Iris can cause tissue irritation when chewed/handled. if ingested, it can cause GI signs such as drooling, vomiting and/or diarrhea. Rinse his mouth with cool water for at least 15 minutes. Monitor for drooling and swelling of tissues. See your vet if the swelling interferes with breathing or eating. "Simple" GI upset can usually be treated at home with a fast followed by a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. See your vet if Oakley becomes lethargic or if GI signs do not resolve.
