My dog lays down and immediately leaps up. He can't sleep and is off food. It looks as if he has something wrong with hip but does not cry when pressure is put on joints

It certainly is possible that Cody is having problem with his hips, as that would explain why he lays down and immediately leaps up. It could also be a problem with his spine. It's quite serious he can't sleep and is off his food. Due to these problems, I would have him seen by a vet right away for a physical exam, lameness exam, and x-rays. The vet can diagnose what is causing his problems, and can treat him. He would also likely benefit from pain medications, but please do not give Cody any human pain medications. Many are toxic to dogs, and can be fatal if given.
