My dog had a blood transfusion for anemia. Gums still white?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Our dog, a 10 lb miniature dachshund had a blood transfusion for regenerative anemia last week. She is more alert, eating and doing better but her gums are still white. Is she doing well?

The anaemia will take time to rectify itself, it can take several months for the gums to go back to their normal color. the most important thing though is that she is responding well to the treatment.
