Pet's info: Dog | Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 40 lbs
I have an 11 yrold Wheaton terrier who just had surgery to remove his spleen (big mass growing and ruptured into his stomach). When we discovered this, he seemed to be having muscle spasms and collapsed (& couldn't get up) which is how we knew something was wrong. It's been 3 days now since his surgery. He stands up quickly when he hears someone come home/prance down the hall. Today had a brief similar muscle spasm, but then got up/walked around just fine now. Can pain/over exertion cause this?

Wow, how horrible that Kona had a ruptured spleen, and I'm glad he survived the surgery! Yes, the brief muscle spasm could be due to pain and over exertion, but it could also be normal, as dogs do have involuntary muscle spasms. I would try to keep him as quiet as possible, and if the muscle spasms continue, I would have Kona seen by a vet.
