Why did my dog pass worms after deworming? Is it a good sign?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 34 lbs

My dog tested positive for roundworm, and took his first dose of Interceptor Plus two days ago. Today, I found a long worm in his stool. Is that a good sign the worms are dying and leaving his body?

Yes, the Interceptor Plus will affect adult worms but not larvae that are migrating. Dewormers can cause a"purge" of dead or dying adult intestinal parasites. You should have Rocket dewormed again in 2-3 weeks. Contact your veterinarian for a broad spectrum dewormer to clear emerging adults. Nemex or Panacur can be dispensed by your vet based on your dog's weight.
