My cat has tapeworms. Is her medicine working or does she need more?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 lbs

I found tapeworm segments in my cat's bedding last week and 2 live worms on her butt. I gave her prolabs tapeworm tabs on Saturday and cleaned my apartment and used a flea spray on all the surfaces. Today I found what looks like a dried up worm in her bed. Is the medicine working or do I need to give her another dose? She was adopted last year and they only gave her front line plus and strongid t at the shelter

That means the medication is working, as you can frequently see dead worms after a treatment. Godive will need another deworming treatment in two weeks to kill all the worms, and I would give her another dose then.

You are probably giving the wrong dewormer. It sounds like you need to be treating for tapeworms and most general dewormers do not treat those. I suggest you give her a dewormer for tapeworms and repeat after 3 weeks. Also, you need to treat her for fleas as that is how they get tapeworms.
