Poor guy. Upper respiratory infections in dogs are usually caused by a bacterial infection. Other possible causes are a fungal infection, or allergies. It's best to take him to the vet to get examined and medications to treat this. If he does have an upper respiratory infection then he will be prescribed oral antibiotics to take care of it. I hope he gets well soon!

I'm sorry your boy is sick! It sounds like he has a respiratory infection. I can give you a few things to try at home to help with his congestion, but any medications for his symptoms can only be gotten from the vet. Many human OTC medications are not safe to give to dogs, and can do great harm to them. I'd make an appointment for your pup to see the vet today or tomorrow for some medications for his symptoms. In the meantime, you can try using a humidifier (water only in it ) or bringing him into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections.

Dogs don't really get colds. Even when they do have respiratory infections, such as Kennel Cough, we don't really appreciate a lot of nasal discharge. I would want to be sure that your dog has been vaccinated against the distemper virus, since this is a very serious respiratory condition that causes excessive mucous from the nose and eyes, and usually leads to death if not treated. If your dog is acting fine otherwise you can try to clean the mucous and keep the nasal openings clear, use a humidifier to soothe his nasal passages, and feed canned food to soothe his throat. However, if he continues to worsen unfortunately I think you are going to have to figure out how to see a vet about this.

You should call your vet and give him/ her an update. It could be a viral infection or he could have an allergy, foreign body or mass in his nasal cavity. If he is wheezing and having trouble breathing he may need an anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator, or other medication to help him breathe easier. Your vet can you do an examination and take an x-ray, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If his signs persist he may need to have a rhinoscopy to help diagnose. Please call your vet and have him rechecked.
