My cat has bronchitis & ruptured anal gland. Can I treat at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Exotic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 years and 6 months old | 14 lbs

Peapumpkin seems to have the bronchitis back and I believe a ruptured anal gland where they did not get them expressed where she was just at the vet . Can I help her at home with this or will she need to go back ? I have antibiotics from the last bronchitis. I'm worried the lactulose may be causing the bronchitis . Also and this may sound really dumb but can catnip possibly cause bronchitis ? I've done steam therapy with her in bathroom for ten minutes her on floor I sit in there with her .

Oh poor Peapumpkin is having a rough time lately! No, I would not give her the antibiotics from last time, as she may needed different antibiotics to successfully treat the bronchitis if it has returned. The rupture anal sac will need to be flushed and cleaned, and she will need antibiotics for it as well. She does have to see a vet for all of this, and I would have her seen today. It's not a dumb question at all about the catnip! If she inhaled some of the catnip, it could have irritated her respiratory tract possibly leading to the bronchitis. Steam therapy is a great idea, and I would continue to do that with Peapumpkin. Have her seen by a vet today if possible.
