How long should I walk my puppy based on age for enough exercise?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

How long should I walk my puppy for? And what distance is recommended for him to actually walk? I take him down twice a day and we're out for 35 min - 1 hour both times, depending on the weather. The distance is not long however, he spends time exploring, meeting other dogs and socialising. I wonder if that's enough exercise for him. We usually take the same path

It really depends on the age of your puppy, breed, and personality. Self Directed Play is the best thing for growing puppies so the majority of his exercise should be free play. If he shows any fatigue, flops down, refuses to walk, you should listen to him and let him rest. Going on your walks and letting him socialize and explore is fine as long as he doesn't seem to get too tired.
