My new puppy hit her head. Is a bump a concussion or just swelling?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 2 months and 30 days old | 7 lbs

Hello i got a puppy about 4 days ago..she seems fine ..About 2 days ago she hit herself under the bed and got a little bump on the right side of her forhead.. Will the bump go away by itself?? Should i be worried? I can't take her to the vet because she doesn't have her shots yet.. It doesn't bother her but im worried she might have a concussion or something..plzz help!!):

Your puppy is plenty old enough to get started on her vaccinations, so taking her to the vet shouldn't be a problem. If she's acting fine and the bump is improving, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. She may have just banged herself hard enough to get a swelling. If she isn't acting like herself, then I recommend getting her to see the vet right away.

    Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. As long as she is acting normally and doesn't seem painful when your touch her head, she should be OK! Dog's heads are very sturdy and can withstand a fair amount of force. If she ever seems to stumble around or have trouble walking, or does not want to eat or starts vomiting, she should be evaluated. Otherwise, she should be just fine! I hope this is helpful!

My 7 week old puppy hit his head hard last night and he now he has a big bump on the top of his head. He's been sleeping all day, is this serious?
Head trauma is always a cause for concern. Since this happened yesterday, there should have been some improvement with your pup if he suffered an injury such as a mild concussion. Sleeping a lot is not so much of a concern since young puppies normally sleep most of the day, but if you also see signs such as unresponsiveness, a head tilt, circling while walking, unequal pupil size, twitching of the eyes, ataxia (wobbly gait) or [vomiting](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/vomiting-1/) then he should be [seen by a veterinarian immediately](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-handle-a-pet-emergency/). If there is a bump, it may be a seroma (blood filled sac). This can treated by your veterinarian by either draining the area or trying a veterinary anti-inflammatory medication. Do not medicate him with anything OTC without the advice of your veterinarian as [many OTC drugs can be toxic](https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-human-medications-that-are-dangerous-for-your-pet) to dogs.

What may cause a bump on my 3 1/2 month puppy's head? I did not witness any trauma, but it seemed to develop out of nowhere
It is usually cause by hitting the head on something hard or bu an insect bite. monitor it for 3-4 days to make sure the swelling is going down, if it doesn't please take him to your vet in order to get it checked.

My puppy was playing outside all day a couple days ago and she developed a bump on the back of her head and it looks like it’s bigger today... we are worried she hit it
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pumpkin. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian if the bump is growing. A procedure known as a fine needle aspirate may be performed. The veterinarian will use a small needle to collect a sample of cells to evaluate under the microscope. This will tell if there is an infection under the skin such as an abscess, a benign growth, a build up for fluid or even skin cancer. Based on these results, treatment recommendations can be made. Thor has developed a lump between his eyes on his head... Is it normal or?
First, great pictures and highlighting of the lump! This appears to be a fluid-filled lump. Usually puppies get these when they bang their head on something and then fluid accumulated under the skin. However, I do worry about congenital defects that could cause accumulation of CNS fluid under the skin. If Thor is otherwise acting and looking normal, then either way, it's not an emergency. If he is acting weird, then best to have a veterinarian check him out. If it was just a bump, then the swelling will start going down within a couple of days. If it continues to grow, then it would be concerning enough to make an appointment with a vet. An easy way to detect growth or shrinking is to draw around the edge to the swelling with a magic marker. It will look silly, but it's really easy to tell if the border of the swelling has moved. My 24-day old dog was on the floor being licked by my other dog and started to whine we picked her up and I soothe her after about an hour I got her to sleep and now she has a huge lump on her head
My concern would be that the other dog may have bitten Hope on the head. Keep an eye on the swelling. If it is getting larger, if it starts to leak fluid, or if she isn't going back to a normal attitude when she wakes up from her nap, she needs to be examined by a vet right away as brain swelling could be fatal.

My five month old pitbull has a large, bone like bump on the left side of her head. Its hard and shaped like her naturel skull, but it is much larger then the other side.
Hi I can see the swelling on Deijah's head. There are a few possibilities in a young dog : could she have bumped her head and now has a bruise swelling? Some skin cysts can look like this also. occasionally I see spider bites that develop into abscesses that can appear quickly. Does she seem painful when it is touched? If it's not going down in 1or2 days, you should take her to your vet for an exam.

What a cutie! Congratulations on your new puppy! The most common causes of a swelling such as this would be a hematoma (basically an injury causing bleeding under the skin to build up) or an abscess (a pocket of infection under the skin due to a wound or penetrating object such as a splinter). We may also see a reaction to an insect bite such as a spider bite. I would recommend an exam by your vet to look at the area. They may use a small needle to aspirate the swelling and check for the cause. Depending on their findings they may recommend antibiotics or just monitoring depending on the exam.

My 10 weeks old puppy accidentally hit her head badly into a chair when was playing running with my daughter. Now she has vomiting.

My 5 month puppy has a knot on top of her head (not the back skull bone) that showed up 5 days ago. At first it felt soft and fluid filled. We iced it and gave her baby aspirin. It hasn't shrunk and feels harder. We have a vet appointment tomorrow b
One of the most common causes of these harder swellings, particularly in rambunctious puppies, is a subperiosteal hematoma (aka "coffee table bump"). The vet will likely recommend skull x-rays for Nala to assure that there is no damage to the bones of the skull. If a subperiosteal hematoma is diagnosed, these fortunately tend to improve over time without any significant intervention. In the future, avoid using aspirin in Nala because it can cause bleeding issues and stomach ulcers in dogs. If Nala needs pain medications, her vet will be able to prescribe safer alternatives. I hope that all goes well!
