My cat's pupils stay wide in bright light. Is he going blind?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

So my cat Leo is showing signs of being blind but also not. He's able to get around the house the same that any cat would but whenever you put your finger by his eye without making wind his eyes stay open. And when he has a very bright light near him his pupils stay wide is this normal? He's only nine months.

It is not normal at all that Leo's pupils stay wide when he has a light shined near them. They should constrict in the presence of light. This can be a sign that Leo is blind, and I would have him seen by a vet today. The vet can confirm he is blind. If Leo is blind, it is recommend to making him an indoor only cat if he isn't already one.
