My dog has a bloody, pus-filled lump on his genitals. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 15 lbs

This morning I noticed a small pimple at my dog's genitals. By the afternoon this became much bigger and was filled with puss and blood. Is it something serious or just a skin irritation/allergy?

It sounds like this pimple is infected if it's filled with pus and blood, and Aris should see a vet for it. Do not pop it yourself, as you will introduce more infection into it. The vet can drain it sterilely and can give him antibiotics to treat the infection.

Hi. These look like pustules, an area of infection filled with mucopurulent debris. He has a skin infection in that area. It will need to be cleaned and he will need a topical or oral antibiotics. I recommend calling your veterinarian in the morning for an appointment
