Why does my cat drop small poops on the floor, even after vet check?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 5 months and 3 days old | 46 lbs

Hello, my cat often leave a peanut sized stool randomly on floor, eventhough he still poop daily on the litter box. I had him get checked on vet, but they said nothing wrong with him, the vet told us to try to feed him with 'gastro intestinal' food, but still nothing changes.

Sometimes when cats are relaxed, they can drop little balls of feces out that are in their rectum. It does happen, and given that Mochi has been checked out by a vet and they found nothing wrong with him, that would be my suspicion.

It could be that the stool was near the end of the colon, and when he relaxed, his anus relaxed as well, and that caused the piece of stool to come out. It could also be that playing caused him to reflexively squeeze his colon muscles and causes the poop to fall out. I would have Mochi seen by a vet for a health check, but it may simply be he occasionally pushes it out accidentally.
