How to heal a dog's muzzle sore that keeps reopening from rubbing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old

my daughters pug has an open soar on his muzzle and every time it starts to heal, he rubs his face and it opens up again and starts weeping! Is there anything which can be used to help it to heal?

It sounds as though Frank is really preventing his sore from healing. I would recommend placing a cone/e-collar on him to prevent him from rubbing his face. You may also want to talk to your veterinarian about using a topical ointment/antibiotic to help it heal more quickly. An ointment may help reduce irritation which in turn may stop him from rubbing.
