My dog has a bulging gum growth. Does he need a vet if he fears them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Male | neutered | 5 years and 1 month old | 15 lbs

My dog has some bulging looking gum/tissue behind his lower left short tooth in the front. Is there a way to send a picture? He really fears the vet, but I wonder if he needs to see one. He tries to bite them, so I'm afraid they'd need to medicate him just to look at it. I don't think it's causing him pain, but it looks odd. He has some minor bleeding when chewing bone or soft toy, but doesn't appear to be coming from that bulgy tissue. Any advice is helpful.. thanks!

It is possible that this growth is a benign growth but it could also be a malignant growth. For this, it is important that Vinny sees a vet to have the lump diagnosed. The vet might need to sedate him in order to examine the growth, but this is not an uncommon practice for a vet to have to do. I would definitely schedule an appointment with the vet to have this growth examined, and let them know he may need to be sedated in order to have it examined.
