Why is my indoor cat attacking the other after being outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

hi! I have 2 cats, who are normally indoor cats, and Minnie (female) able to get outside. Fortunately, she came back home with no cuts or anything, but the other cat, Oliver (male), was constantly hissing at her and then started attacking her. We have them separated at the moment, but Oliver keeps circling the room where we are keeping minnie. They usually never fight and we have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?

Keep them separated for the time being. Oliver may need a few days to reacclimnate to Minnie. If she allows, a bath may remove any residual outdoor scents that could be upsetting Oliver. Pheromone products such as Feliway spray may decrease his anxiety/aggression as well.
