Cat has white specks near tail after flea treatment. Is it dandruff?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, I took in a stray cat about 2 weeks ago. He had fleas so immediately got Advantage multi at the vet and after a week and a half I gave him a cap star tablet just in case. I'm not sure if the fleas are all gone but he has white specks all around the base of his tail. Could this be more fleas? Kitty dandruff? Thanks so much!

That's so lovely of you to take in Jasper and take care of him! It sounds more like the white stuff is dandruff due to dry skin. If it were fleas, it would be little black specks. It could be that he is deficient nutritionally, so you can try adding some fish oil supplements to his food. Bathing him with vitamin E oil may help as well, and you can also groom him regularly, as that will also help with the dandruff. Hope this helps!
