Have DoReMi examined by your veterinarian. Submit a stool sample to diagnose intestinal parasites which can affect weight and weight gain. Blood work may diagnose metabolic conditions or endocrine imbalances as well. Your vet can teach you how to assess your cat's Body Condition Score (BCS). This, in addition to weighing, can help you get and keep your cat into peak condition. You can follow this link to familiarize yourself with the BCS prior to the visit to your veterinarian. https://www.purina.co.uk/cats/health-and-nutrition/exercise-and-weight-management/assessing-your-cat's-body-condition

There are several markers (hips, ribs, waistline) that you look at to come up with DoReMi's body condition score (BCS). This is the best way to know if he is underweight or not. However since he is a kitten still, his appearance can fluctuate quite a bit as he continues to grow. Here is a website link that shows you just how to do this. Scroll to the bottom for the chart on cats. http://www.pet-slimmers.com/pet-obesity/how-to-tell-if-your-pet-is-overweight.aspx But generally speaking, kittens that have weight issues almost always have concurrent vomiting, lack of appetite or diarrhea. If you still have concerns about his weight, then have him examined by your vet for an overall heath check-up to make sure that everything looks ok.
