My dog is limping before surgery. Should I go to the ER vet tonight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 9 years old | 80 lbs

Hi. My 9 year beagle/spaniel hurt his bag leg tonight and is limping. Tomorrow he is having surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his neck. He has very bad heart disease - on 4 different medications daily (Spironolactone, Benazepril, Lasix, Vetmedin). Will his hurt leg affect the surgery? Can I wait until tomorrow morning to get him checked out or drive an hour to the ER vet tonight? I really appreciate your help.

I'm sorry Baxter hurt his leg! The hurt leg will not affect him having surgery in the morning, and I would definitely mention to the vet tomorrow so it can be examined, diagnosed, and treated. I would rest him tonight. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done.
