My outdoor cat has red, lumpy bumps all over. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 13 years old | 17 lbs

My 13 year old cat has lumpy bumps all over him. He is an outdoor cat that likes to roll around in dirt. These bumps are pink or red and are solid not fluid filled. He doesn't like me to touch them. I would like to send you a picture but don't know if I can through this site.

Unfortunately, you can't share pictures in the forum, but you can share them in a consult. You can request a consult online with an expert, and they can take look at the picture for you. Based on your description of the Cu's bumps and the fact that he likes to roll around in dirt, it could be that he is suffering an allergic reaction due to contact with something in the environment. I recommend having him seen by a vet right away. The vet can give him an anti-histamine or a steroid to help control and stop the reaction.
