Why is my dog's tail bloody, black, and losing fur with a foul odor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 5 months old | 80 lbs

My dog's tail is bloody and black. She's lost almost half her fur in it. Just yesterday there was only a little bit of blood. I assumed she was in heat. There's also this strong foul odor coming from her rear area. The vet is closed until morning.

This could also be bloody diarrhea, keep an eye on her until your vet opens and take her there, when there is such an amount of blood it's usually something that will need your vet's attention, it could be a severe infection and Maya will probably need antibiotics as well.
