Should I splint my polydactyl cat's curled toes if he walks fine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a polydactyl cat who walks with his extra toes curled under, almost like walking on his knucles. Should I try and put a splint on the toes to keep them growing straight? He has no trouble at all walking, jumping, or any sort of movement.

No, I wouldn't put a splint on yourself to try and straighten them. If he's not having any trouble with movement, there may be no need to fix them. You can have him seen by a vet, and they can let you know if they need to be straightened or not, and can discuss treatment options for it.
