My dog is weak, cold, not eating, and peeing. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | unneutered | 17 lbs

My dog was walking like he was drunk and then he fell and peed himself. Now is he hardly eating or drinking and he feels cold to the touch. Is he dying?

It sounds as if Malcolm is quite ill. This can be due to infection, trauma or toxicity. Whatever the cause, he needs immediate veterinary attention. Have him examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Wrap him in a blanket to keep him warm. Rub a small amount of Karo syrup (or pancake syrup) on his gums. Do not wait to see if he will improve. The sooner he is seen, the sooner you will have a diagnosis and can begin treatment.
