My Great Dane puppy has a sore on her muzzle from licking. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Female | spayed | 7 months and 22 days old | 80 lbs

My Great Dane puppy has a sore on her muzzle, looks like she's looking the hair in the spot. About the size of a nickel and today it looks like she's cut it open. What should I do to make sure she's okay and does she need any antibiotics? Should I take her to the vet?

Place an e-collar (cone) on Charlie to prevent pawing or rubbing. You can purchase one from your veterinarian or at most pet stores. This may be enough to allow healing, but if the area spreads or does not heal then she should be seen by your veterinarian. It may be localized bacterial or fungal infection or it could be a mite infection.
