My dog won't eat his food! I have been giving him Nutro's lamb and rice recipe to help with his chicken and beef allergies but he does not like it. I was giving him just the wet food and he would reluctantly eat it but buying only cans gets a little expensive so i tried mixing it with kibble of the same flavor and he wont eat it at all. I tried soaking the kibble to make it softer because i thought it hurt his teeth but still nothing. And it's not a health issue because he eats other stuff fine

Some dogs tend to be picky eaters and learn to wait to eat until tastier food is offered. I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian to rule out a medical problem that could be causing a decrease in appetite and make sure he is maintaining his weight. If everything checks out, it is okay to offer food and wait a day or even two - he'll eat when he's hungry!

You could try Royal Canin puppy food and moisten it to a gruel with milk replacer or cereleac. If he still isn’t eating you should recheck with your vet to rule out parasites or infectious diseases that could be causing a decreased appetite.

Hi there and thank you for your post! It may be that he is particular about textures. With dogs like this I recommend trying multiple different formulas of food and trying different sized kibble such as small versus large or large versus small bites. It may also be worth trying canned food versus dry food. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I’m sorry to hear that Chewy isn’t interested in eating his food. You can certainly try changing up his diet with a different dog food, but I recommend changing it slowly. For example, mix in a new diet with his old diet first to see if he will eat this. Alternatively, you can offer him boiled chicken and rice, which is a bland diet that may help settle his stomach. If he isn’t interested in eating any food for more than 24 hours, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian. Inappetance can be a sign of underlying systemic disease, such as liver or kidney disease, hormonal imbalances, inflammation or infection. If he isn’t improving at home, your veterinarian may recommend blood work to look for evidence of underlying disease, or may recommend x-rays of the abdomen to look for any abnormalities. I hope this is helpful!
