Why is my dog falling over, not eating, and acting unlike himself?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 80 lbs

My dog has tried to stand up and just falls over, he won't perk his ears or eat any of his food. He's usually a very friendly dog that will walk up to everyone and is always good about eating. What could have happened to him? We live in the country, and we think maybe he was poisoned, or hit by a horse or car. We'd love any help as to what we can do to make our boy feel better.

Poor Toby! It sounds like he's quite painful. If he can't stand, there are a number of things that could have happened to him. He could have been hit by a car, or run into something and hurt his back. He could also have a slipped disc in his back. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. He or she should be able to isolate where the pain is coming from and provide the appropriate treatment.
