My puppy has diarrhea. Should I give Kaopectate, and how much?

Hi, my puppy have chronic diarrhea, the stool have visible mucus and sour smell, but so far no blood, no vomit and faulthy smell is found, i have deworm the puppy recently, but the stool condition didn seems to turn well, so i would like to give some kaolinpectin for him, in order to reduce the pain for the puppy, how many ml should i give per day? He is around 5 kg+, please help. Thank you in advance

I do not recommend using Kaopectate in dogs, since it contains salicylic acid, which is the active ingredient and can cause further GI upset. Your dog should be tested for parasites (since not all dewormers treat all parasites), food sensitivities, food allergies, and other problems that can cause diarrhea, such as pancreatitis and liver issues. You can try feeding a bland diet containing boiled white meat chicken and boiled white rice to see if that helps him, however the exact cause of the diarrhea needs to be discovered and treated appropriately.
