Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 12.5 lbs
my 11yr. old schnauzer just started pooping in the house. "first poop" is semi-normal in texture, but then next to it there are trails or orange-red liquid trails. this is happening in and off and at random times during the day and night. do i need to take him in?

Yes, you should have him seen. The liquid you are seeing is diarrhea, and I suspect that the pooping in the house is because he can't hold it, not because he's having behavioral issues. Diarrhea in dogs can have many causes, including parasites, a food indiscretion, food allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, and issues with the internal organs including kidneys and liver. Get him checked out right away, so that the cause can be diagnosed and the appropriate treatment started.
