My dog has a red, bleeding, balding sore that's growing. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 5 years and 1 month old | 38 lbs

I noticed a red sore on my dog yesterday, with a little bit of blood in his hair. Now, it's way bigger today. It's balding, bleeding, and getting bigger. What should I do?!

He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection, cyst, mass, etc. and your vet can do a needle aspirate, if needed, to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. He may need an antibiotic and and anti-inflammatory to treat the problem.
