My kitten ate a pigeon claw. Should I worry about internal damage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 months and 25 days old | 6 lbs

My cat just caught a pigeon. He is still a kitten (+- 10 months) so he is still a little inexperienced. The only part of the pigeon he ate was the one claw. Literally just gnawed of the claw. I am a little worried that this could damage his intestines or cause a bowel obstruction. What should I look out for?

Many cats eat birds, and while there is a slight possibility the claw might do some damage to Jakkal's intestinal tract, just a single claw should pass without problem. You could see some blood in his feces if any damage is done to his intestinal tract as it passes through, and if you do, I would have him seen by a vet. Hopefully, though, he will be just fine :-)
