Can I use the same sponge for pet and human dishes without germ risk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Female | spayed | 4 months old | 12 lbs

I have a small chihuahua female spayed 7 yrs old and kitten as stated I am concerned about germs/diseases people/animals can obtain from pets/people. I do not have a dishwasher and wash their dishes with ours and use same sponges. Is that okay? Dog and kitten sleep with us. They are up to date on all vaccines and treated properly for fleas etc. thank you

It's fine that you wash their dishes with yours and use the same sponges. Just be sure to use lots of soap and hot water to kill any germs. Also make sure they are up to date on their deworming treatments, and wash your hands thoroughly after scooping Dollie's litter box :-)
