My dog uses Vetsulin U-40. How do I convert dosage for new syringes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 9 months old | 98 lbs

We give our dog 20 units in a 1/2 cc needle. The new needles are 1ml and we need to give him 22 units of vetsulin u 40. Can you give me the conversion so we dose him correctly?

Using a different syringe is not recommended. The risk of overdose or underdose is greatly magnified. If you use u100 syringes for Vetsulin, a fast way to calculate the correct # of units is to multiply the number of U40 units given by 2.5. (22 units Vetsulin x 2.5 = 55 units in a u100 syringe).
