My dog has kennel cough. Can I give cough medicine before 12 hours?

Hello. My dog was exposed to kennel cough and has been prescribed cough medicine and an antibiotic. The cough medicine is hydrocodone. I gave him a dose when I first got home about 6 PM. He still coughing so much! Is it OK to give another dose before bed? Instructions are to give him two times a day. Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 12 years and 7 months old | 7.5 lbs
