What's the ideal percentage of fresh produce for my dog's diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, thank you to the person who answered my question about the greens and pumpkin. I just had a follow up question. I figured out that if I did a tablespoon of greens and fruit and a tablespoon of canned pumpkin that this would be 15% of her diet as fresh produce. Is this enough? Or should it be around 30% fresh produce? I'm trying to prevent cancer and I know fresh produce is really important for that. She eats 2/3 cup high quality kibble per day along with some supplements. Thank you again!

You are welcome, I'm glad to help you! Thank you for thanking me :-) I would keep the percentage of fresh produce in her diet to 15%. That's because too much can lead to weight gain, and obesity can lead to other health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, and joint problems among others. Hope this helps!
