Why is my cat's tail drooping and constantly licking its rear?

I strongly recommend taking her to the vet for evaluation, because it is quite likely that antibiotics and pain medication may be needed. Do not give her any over the counter human pain medicine, as none are safe for cats. Until you can get to the vet, put an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent further licking of the area, as this could make matters worse. The most common things that could cause this behavior are flea bites around the back or tail, anal sacs that are full and itchy or infected, or a tail injury. You can check for fleas by combing the fur with a fine tooth comb. If you see fleas on the comb then give a bath and apply a flea prevention product. In order to determine what the underlying source of the inflammation is, Lary needs to be seen by a vet who can palpate her abdomen and do a good rectal exam to find the source of the problem. I am sorry rascal is not feeling well. I would recommend taking him to a veterinarian to determine the cause of discomfort with the tail. Dogs have glands inside the rectum called anal glands that can cause inflammation and irritation. I would recommend having a vet examine these glands to make sure they are not the problem. Also skin allergies or fleas can cause irritation. You can try an over the counter anti histamine to decrease inflammation. Hope that helps and he feels better soon.

It could be that Booty had impacted anal sacs, and they have now ruptured. That would cause her to bleed from her anus, and drag her bottom on the ground. It could also be that he suffered trauma to his anus, like from a foreign body, or he could be suffering from intestinal worms. I would take him into the vet first thing in the morning. The vet can determine what is causing his anus to bleed, and can treat it from there.
