My dog was recently biting at his tail and it was very swollen. we thought it was fleas so we bought some flea control. now he is biting on his butt and has bitten the hair off to bare skin, the hole is now bigger than a 50 cent piece. would you have any idea what can be causing this?

It could be possible that Jett may have a problem with his anal glands, or another skin issue which is causing his irritation. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have him examined fully. Your veterinarian will then be able to suggest an appropriate course of treatment which may include antiinflammatories and antibiotics, particularly if he has broken the skin barrier.
