Why does my cat have a chronic cough? Is it dangerous or asthma?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 7 months old | 6.9 lbs

Can a cat get a cough like kennel cough?? My cat coughs from a long time..maybe a year & a half or more And his cough is contenuous and loud ..& i feel like there is mucus in his lung during coughing This happens while asleep or awake I'm scared..i wasn't aware before about cats' coughing until recently...so, is it dangerous? And also i have problem finding good vets in the place i live...unfortunately

Cats don't get kennel cough, but causes of chronic coughing include feline asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic broncho-pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It's important to have the cause of Tota's cough diagnosed so he can be treated for it. I would find the best vet you can in your area to see him, or consider taking a trip to bring him to one you can trust. It's not normal for a cat to cough for a long time, especially a year and a half, and he would benefit from treatment for whatever is causing the cough.
