My pug has a skin infection, pus, and dandruff. What shampoo to use?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I have a 3 years old pug. Recently he had a bacterial infection under the wrinkle. He was treated with Marbofloxacin for 7 days. He is much much better but there is still small ammount of some liquid ("pus") going out. Another problem is dandruff. It started before antibiotic. He didnt have a bath for more than 3 months and he stinks bad. Is dandruff related to bacterial infection? Can he have a bath? What shampoo to use? In your oppinion, should we continue with antibiotic therapy or stop?

I'm sorry that your dog is having problems with his skin! Given that he is still having some pus coming from his skin, I would continue with the antibiotic therapy. The dandruff is likely related to dry skin, and you can give him a bath. I would speak to your vet about getting a medicated shampoo that contains an antibacterial agent to bathe him with :-)
