Why is my budgie still wheezing after Baytril treatment ended?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

Hi! My little budgie Nico is having some breathing issues, it's labored and a bit wheezing at times and his tail feathers are bobbing in time with his breathing. We've been to the vet who gave him Baytrill to take for a week. The treatment ended yesterday and I'm not sure I'm seeing any improvement. How long should it take for him to show improvement? How likely is it that he can beat this?

If his problem is caused by an infection than there should be some improvement after 7 days of Baytril. You should call your vet and give him/her an update as your vet may want to try a different antibiotic or a different medication. It is concerning that he has not showed any improvement and is still having trouble.
