He was grunting when pooping,cleaned his butt, got drink, then walked away. After that he went right back to the water bowl.

A little more information would be helpful to answer this post. Providing the type of pet and any other clinical signs would be helpful. If you think your pet is constipated than adding some fiber to his diet may help. For a cat or dog, adding 1-2 teaspoons of canned pumpkin, which is high in fiber, may help with a constipation issue. If not, have him examined by a vet to determine the cause of his problem. Your vet can take an abdominal x-ray to evaluate his intestines. If you think he is drinking excessively than he should be examined by a vet. There are a lot of diseases, like diabetes, infections, kidney disease, etc. that cause an animal to drink an excessive amount of water. Your vet can run lab-work to help diagnose.
